Greenfield Conservation Commission
December 18, 2002 Meeting
Those present: David Voymas, Tom Adams, Dario Carrera, Karen Day, Marilyn Fletcher, & Roger Lessard.
The minutes from November were read and approved.
The Trust for Public Lands will be doing some work in New Boston on Joe English Hill. While they are in the area, they would like to speak with the area conservation groups to see if there are lands that they could help with. We all agreed that a Tuesday night would be the best for all of us. We await a date from them.
Marilyn presented a warrant article for setbacks for wetlands. We don’t have one now and she sees some very small lots coming up for subdivision that put the house right up against the wetlands. This is a very important article. The setback would be 75’ for a disturbance and 25’ for building. We voted unanimously in favor of this article.
Marilyn also gave us an overview on a future proposed ordinance for steep slopes. She doesn’t think that this would be possible in 2003 but this is also an important ordinance. Some of us believe it would be possible to get the information needed to support this for 2003. David & Karen will get as much information as possible. If we can get it together before January 9th, we could propose this ordinance in 2003.
David talked with Jeff at SWRPC about the NRI. Jeff told him that the NRI basically supports the Masterplan. Marilyn gave us copies of the Masterplan draft which contains goals for conservation. The objectives would be items that would be important to support. This layer would be detailed info added to the general overview that the NRI normally covers. We decided to contact Jeff Porter again to see if he would attend our next meeting on January 15th. If he cannot make that date, we will hold a special meeting on another date. We plan to enlist the help of SWRPC to finish our NRI.
